What the future holds

Well for us the near future involves another good house clean literally from top to bottom. We are both hopeless at keeping on top of it and I seem to create clutter whereever I go. So a cleaning weekend it will be, other than the yummy belated birthday breakfast I have planned for Sunday. Hubby is finally free of assignments for a little while so I'll have a little help around the house.

I've been getting a bit bored with work lately, the same old thing over and over again, and I don't think it helps knowing there's an 'end' date (aka parental leave date) in sight. I can't wait for them to hire another person on because at least then I'll have a helping hand and get to do a bit of training.

Apologies for the disjointed-ness of this post every paragraph is kind of dedicated to 'the future'.

Hubby has changed his mind and now agrees with me that Pecan will be a boy. I can't deny that I did try and tell by the scans but I'm really trying to keep it a secret from me & everyone else! I really don't care either way as long as he/she is healthy and has my hair line (receding hairlines are predominant in his family) ha-ha. I can picture either a rough and tumble little boy playing with our dog or a little girl pushing him around in a pram and both tug at my heart-strings.

The other future is finally going on holidays over East and just eating ourselves merry. I really hope I have a cute bump by then so I can do silly tourist photos (if the weather permits).

But now the present beckons and we have to walk the dog before family dinner (with SHOCK HORROR the whole family). My MiL finally realises they're not going to work - she pissed me off when she said this because she said she was tired of people constantly cancelling and I said we've only done it once but she acted like we were as bad as the others who constantly don't show up. Oh well I'll never agree with her over that kind of stuff! And at least she's a nice MiL and not someone I could make a sitcom about.

My Boys

I got to play with my 'adoptive' nephews tonight! It was so wonderful and little Maxi-Moo was totally enamoured with me - tugging my shirt and dragging me around the whole house. It was heaven and I can't wait until it's my turn to have my own little ones.

Forgotten decorations

I am ensuring that our first 'family' Christmas will be everything that I always wanted...even if Hubby is making me tone it down a bit. But that's what marriage is all about right - compromise! I've put some more photos of our tree (crap quality because it's my i-phone and I don't have the latest you beaut version), along with close ups of the hearts we got from the Danish rellies as a wedding gift.

Our tree with the hearts - still missing the decorations to each other.

One of the hearts - we need to fill them with candy.
The stocking Mum made me when I was little (I still swear my sister stole the red one but no one believes me!).
The tree and our gorgeous little balcony!
We finally managed to tidy the house today (goodbye to doing anything fun on Sunday!) and it just feels so much better. We've still got more boxes to unpack and Hubby's office is still a giant mess but we're getting there.

I really want to make a stocking for the Mr but I don't think it's going to be possible unless I get access to my MiL's sewing machine and I don't really want to spend that much time there! Oh well there's always next year.

It's funny thinking about the year ahead I'm of two minds about what to do. On one hand my best friend (and Maid of Honour) will be living in France next year and I'd be insane not to use that opportunity to go and visit her and finally go to Denmark. But on the other hand I'm still thinking I'd like to have a baby although that thought is getting put to the side more and more. My work just won a big contract which means I'll be SUPER busy until we take over in May and definitely don't want to be driving heaps and pulling over to throw up every five minutes (which if I take after Mum I definitely will be). But Hubby was very sweet and said which ever happens it will be AWESOME. I just kept getting reminded of the reasons why I married him this weekend which is always nice (in a non mushy way!).

So who knows where we will be this time next year but that's definitely half the fun so I'm just going to enjoy our awesome new place and look forward to Christmas. I guess that will be my New Year's resolution to stop focusing on the future and just have a damn good time enjoying the present!

Another Sunday Post

I always find myself posting on a Sunday. I guess as the day winds down I feel like putting fingers to keys and purging my soul.

Not a lot happened this sunny Father's Day. We had a breakfast with my father-in-law which was great because the SiL (wife of Hubby's brother) wasn't there and I felt like I could just relax. Next weekend will be full on dealing with them because it's our nephew's second birthday but that'll be fine. I'll just drink coffee and take lots of photos and enjoy the day! We got him 2 books and a plastic golf set so hopefully he enjoys all of that. It's hard buying for little kids, especially when they're no longer babies but they're not really 'kids' yet either.

We've been having lots more baby talks because we decided that we'd aim for a November/December 2011 baby. But knowing what babies are like re: arrivals that could be thrown way out of kilter. It's still nice to realise just how close my life-long dream is though. We're not sharing this with anyone though. We went out to a fantastic dinner last night (any Perth people check out Hippo Creek in Subi!) and one of my best uni friends asked if our baby plans had changed. I hope I kept a good poker face when I said 'No!'. I realise everyone is going to think it was an accident and some people will be openly upset about it but I also know that will change when they've had time for it all to sink in. The Hubby and I just really want him to have some time with our first born and figure that the break between finishing uni and starting a new job would be perfect.

I'd be less inclined to do it then if I knew he was the kind of guy who would want to go out and do all the partying the new graduates want to do. But we're both old fuddy-duddies and I know he would hate doing that. Plus he's sort of a mature age student (even if he's under 30) and those graduates would just be too young for him. Although in saying all of that I would still be fine if he went out a couple of nights for after work drinks. After all it's best to get the baby sitting started early especially while the grandparents still view it as a novelty ha-ha.

On a completely non-related baby note I've finally organised time with my little sister to go and get her tattoo. I'm going to get another one on my right foot with a phrase out of one of our wedding readings. It should be fun to share that with her although my Mum got a bit angry when I told her. At least her tattoo won't be visible except when she's wearing a bikini so Mum won't have it in her face constantly.

I'm also considering getting a rib piece with a line of script from our wedding and then things around it that were significant to that day: buttons, owl and pussy-cat, orchids, roses, danish and australian flags etc... But that tattoo will definitely have to wait until I have enough cash. Because we want to have a baby end of next year that's what the savings are going towards. It's funny how easy it is to talk myself out of a pair of shoes now when I think about what I'm saving towards...although not as easy to talk myself out of buying awesome mobiles off etsy! I love that website but it will be the death of my bank account.

Hope everyone has a fantastic week ahead, I'm not looking forward to the mass amounts of job applications I will have on my phone and email tomorrow but them's the breaks :)

Spreadsheet

We've been talking more and more about the baby thing. Unfortunately for Hubby (and our finances) I had the ephiphany that we don't need to wait for him to finish university before we have a child. Obviously we need to get as close to him finishing as possible but we don't have to plan for a 2012 birth. I feel so relieved now because it's what I really want.

Finally I can be a Mom (well sooner than expected at least!), having that thought in my head is great as I head back to work. That place is doing my head in, I don't like having the power of giving someone a job and on the otherhand not giving someone a job :(

It was cute today, we always play the baby name game but today Hubby said we should start a list. I said I already had and instead of teasing me he suggested we start a spreadsheet...3 columns 1 for the name, 1 for my vote and 1 for his vote. I love my super nerdy Hubby!

And I took the road...

So we now have 3 cars at our house. The Hubby’s old car (with everything falling off it) is being sold to his uni buddy so soon there will only be 2 once again. But it means I have to go back to driving a manual because Hubby was silly enough to only get an automatic licence back in the day. Thankfully he’s going for his manual licence at the end of this month and I will get my beautiful car back then (fingers crossed he passes!).  I’m glad we’ve got this car though because finally we have a huge back to fit everything in. My car is so small that doing a big grocery shop involves utilising the back seat as well. Of course I will have to welcome back the Monster when Hubby finishes at uni (and starts work) because my car is not child friendly and shortly after Hubby’s started work I’m planning on popping out a baby.
But lately I’ve been of two minds about having a baby straight after he starts work. It would be nice to have 2 incomes coming in, even if it only was for a little while. But I really can’t see myself staying in my current job for that long. If I want to start a new job I wouldn’t view it as fair to leave within the year to have a baby! Because I definitely want a child in 2012 when I’m 26.
The Hubby mentioned that he can’t believe he’ll be turning 27 next year. It’s always weird when he says that because I forget that he isn’t the same age as my friends and I. The majority of my uni friends are dating guys with a bigger age difference though so I guess it’s nothing odd. I do find it odd though that he won’t be finished uni until he’s almost 28 EEEKKK! But that’s the way things had to happen or we would’ve been doing it tough in the future.
Sometimes I’d like to follow the road less travelled and not do everything correct and by the book but so far it’s worked for us and we have the rest of our lives to explore those other roads.
