Life

Whoops! How do Mums keep on top of this whole blogging thing?

Life is going well for our little family. We're now living with the in-laws (not as bad as it sounds thankfully but still I feel awkward) and then soon to be living with my Mum (but only whilst her fiance is away on business) and then back to the in-laws and then WHO KNOWS. But I'm trying to make the most of it, I would say we're saving except I was hit up with two huge bills (including passports - don't be lazy and get a new passport within your first year of marriage if you're changing your name!) but soon we'll be putting a lot into savings.

The only thing I'm really struggling with at the moment is Logan taking tiny next to nothing naps all of a sudden during the day which means I can barely get anything done - I guess that's part of the reason behind why I'm not blogging so much. Especially living at someone else's house it means I really have to focus more on chores than anything else. As I type this he's chatting away from himself but it's now turning into upset 'you better be quick and hurry up and get in here Mum'. So off I go again!

OPINIONS

So last night was family dinner (sans the siblings) with the in-laws. It was the first time I've seen them both since we announced the pregnancy. It was all sweet to start with, lots of questions about how I was going. But towards the end it just started to get annoying. I'm finally learning that everyone has an opinion and they're not afraid to speak their minds.

I was contemplating a home birth but Hubby isn't keen on that and my Mum immediately knew that the in-laws would be against it (they're a doctor/nurse so go figure). So we decided not a home birth for the first baby and to talk about it for the second. My compromise was to go with a Birthing centre. Last night I advised them that I was going to try going natural to which my MiL's immediate reaction was oh we'll see and then at the end of the night my FiL asked why (on earth) we weren't going private. I've looked into private and it is $$$$ even though we have private insurance.
So this is just my mini rant (no doubt the first of many!). I'm sure I'm not the first to-be-mama to experience this and I won't be the last (nor will this be my last time experiencing it).

Oh and we also realised that we are definitely NOT SHARING names. We said one to my MiL and her first reaction was negative. Argh, so not enjoying sharing this all with them at the moment.

I promise a happy post next :)

Nice Surprises

My FiL is a bit of a spoiler, he's constantly helping out Hubby (because he's a student and doesn't work) and they've all but given us a car and pay for everything involved with that. So after the dinner we were both shocked when he announced we could go crazy when it came to booking a family dinner out for Hubby's birthday. We're going to Jacksons (hopefully better than last time we were there!) 8 people...how crazy! I wish we could show him how appreciative we are other than presents and cards saying thank you. One of our big plans (should Pecan be a boy) is to have Peter as the middle name, my Dad's name is Peter and part of FiL's name is Peter so it works perfectly and if we have all girls there's always Peta :p

I can't wait it will be a very belated birthday for Hubby, a semi-belated birthday for me and an early birthday for his Mum :p So we do have to wait a month or two! I just hope I'm still feeling how I'm feeling and I get to be the designated driver for the first time!

But I did mention that I would discuss his obsession with the dogs. To do so I'll give a bit of background... they were never going to be dog people and then due to a silly mistake by the in-law siblings their dog got pregnant and my MiL wound up having to play surrogate mother. Fast forward and they kept one of the puppies which he really didn't want to and refused to say the puppy was theirs. Well that didn't last long and now the puppy sleeps in their bed and has a whole shelf for dog treats. Then the in-laws siblings had to get rid of both of their dogs and the mother wound up with MiL and FiL. So now they have two dogs who get fed bacon from the fridge, really yummy choice cuts of meat, any kind of leftovers oh and the latest thing witnessed...ice-cream straight out of the fridge!

So there you have it, I now tease Hubby that if they don't watch out the dogs will be left everything in the will :p

Cute

I finally felt like I 'perfected' an outfit. This was for a Saturday BBQ brunch with the in-laws where we finally got to see my adorable niece and nephew. I got to baby jiggle a lot because poor bubba has colic :( But for the first time she didn't cry once while I was holding her YAY!!! Unfortunately I didn't snap any photos but the MiL and FiL got heaps so hopefully I can get some off them next time we meet up.

I love this Sportsgirl nail polish :)

PS: Was hoping to share yay baby news but don't think it's going to happen (one very, very, very, very faint + and then a not pregnant digital) which means no more baby making until late May :( I already told my Mum it's her fault for having such an important holiday booked that it trumps her first grandchild being able to make a December/January appearance!

No MY Post

I get out of cooking tonight!!! And I got out of it last night because Hubby wanted mashed potatoes and I hate cooking them so I told him only if he cooked dinner. It's the small things in life that count right?

Tonight we're heading over to my Mum's house for tea. I was hoping it would just be us but somehow it has turned into game night and my Aunt and Uncle will be there too. I'll just have to suck it up, I probably should have added BE MORE SOCIAL to my list of resolutions because I'm always struggling with that.

Wednesday is Family Dinner night with the in-laws. Hubby is excited because he can use his scoopon voucher to buy a dessert. I just hope that everyone shows up (they have a habit of pulling out and we wind up being the ones with the biggest drive there who show up) especially because the smallest cake feeds 12 people! There's only 8 of us if we're all there (not including my niece who can't eat and my nephew who thinks all cakes are cookies!). I just wish my MiL would get over the idea of holding FD every single week because noone ever goes to all of them (except us!). Both Hubby and I are over putting in the effort and I wish she would've taken my numerous hints to change it to a Sunday brunch or something once a month. We usually still see the in-laws once a week (Hubby sees them almost every second day) so it really only is to catch up with the siblings. So fingers crossed it happens, I miss my niece and nephew :(

Then Thursday is a return to Bonsai for Dad's birthday. He's coming up and we're going to surprise him with a cake. Hopefully it tastes as good as the one we got my sister, this one will be a puffer fish so fingers crossed.

I don't know what the rest of the week will involve but we've got a long-weekend coming up and I can't wait!

Grey's Anatamathon

When I was at uni with my wonderful 'Team Awesome' we used to have long lazy days watching Grey's Anatomy and today I find myself doing the same thing. Terrible I know but I dedicated this weekend to being my lazy weekend! The heat isn't really inspiring me to do anything either which sucks, I really want to get out there and be physical but maybe later. Although later we're planning on going to the outdoor cinema (provided the stupid non-existent cyclone doesn't hit) to watch Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. It looks scary and it's foreign so that's two huge ticks for me. I love the fact that Hubby comes from Denmark because he loves watching foreign movies and I've watched so many awesome Danish movies because of him.

Last night we had family dinner with the in-laws including Hubby's brother and his little family. My nephew is so adorable and I think it's really the first time that I've heard him call me Jess (hopefully I become Aunty Jess at some point). We also saw our little niece who is now a little over a month old and boy is she cranky! Pretty much crying non-stop unless her Mummy was rocking her or holding her. She's gotten so much bigger though and her legs are starting to get a little bit more chunky! Hubby was funny though as we were driving there he said he was more looking forward to seeing his nephew than the new baby. I thought that was cute but silly but now I share his point of view playing with a kid that loves you is so much more fun that holding a baby that wants to scream her lungs out because her Mum has let her go.

After everyone had gone I sat outside and had a huge chat with the MiL. It was nice for a change surprisingly although I swear she has the WORST memory. I told her a couple of months ago we were wanting a baby at the end of this year and then I told her that again last night. She was really happy but shocked because it was coming up so soon. I guess that is a bit scary because it definitely is right around the corner but it's exciting too. We're sticking by our whatever is meant to happen will happen :) I truly think that's the best philosophy to have especially if potential 'knock us on our butt' moments are coming up.

It was strange because I bought up adopting a child. I think because I asked if the others were contemplating having any more children (she doesn't think so but seeing as they were both surprises who knows!). Then MiL asked how many children we wanted and I said hopefully 4 and maybe one of them to be adopted. Immediately I realised I shouldn't have said that, she was really against it and only pro it if you couldn't have children. I could sort of see where she was coming from and it's not something I'm definite about but it's always been a possibilty at the back of my mind. But it's something I/we need to research and I was happy when Hubby said he still was interested in the idea. So it was a great night which totally caught me by surprise because I usually don't enjoy myself when I'm up there.

I hope 2011 is the year of good surprises :)

Monday Yummies

Well I didn't really cook. The Hubby put a turkey roll in the slow cooker (on high whoops!) and then we just had pumpkin, potatoes and peas. Go the pees :p When Hubby uncut the string holding it together the whole thing fell apart but it was very very yummy and the sauce that he put on it (just the leaked out bits haha) was AWESOME!

The in-laws semi invited themselves down to our humble little abode. I didn't realise until they were there that they hadn't been there in months and months. It's hard with them living 30 minutes away and with the Hubby's uni timetable.

His Mum mentioned family dinner starting up again when Hubby has finished uni...really not keen. I feel like dirt whenever I'm with his little sister and sister-in-law and I just want to avoid all that. No point having it forced upon me one night a week when I can avoid it! So hopefully that will all fall to pieces! Shame on me for saying that but sometimes you really have to look after yourself.

On another note my Mum got it out of us that we're planning on having a baby end of November next year (although I know it's impossible to be that close with planning!). She was slightly concerned with Andreas only just having finished uni but I want baby & Hubby time and we won't ever get that again with him at work.

Pony Rides

Today's morning was spent at a 2 year-old's birthday party complete with a pony, lamb and 13+ kids of varying ages. It was good fun excluding the fact that we were the only non-parents (it was a party for our page boy who refused to walk down the aisle). But it was good fun seeing my two favourite "nephews", I can't believe how old they are both getting.

Then we went and nerd-ed it up at the in-laws because when ever Hubby is around they always need him to fix something with their gazillion computers, i-pads/phones etc... But it was fun showing them our wedding photos and just hanging out having a chat. I much prefer that to the family dinners but by the sounds of things that is not going to go away anytime soon :(

Tonight we're hopefully off to watch Inception. I keep pulling out but I think I need to force myself to go because it looks like the screening times are dropping. From people's recommendations it's definitely not a movie I want to miss. So wish me luck getting my sleepy butt to the cinema!

Our Name

Yesterday we caught up with Hubby's brother, wife and their son. We went up to see their awesome new house and it was amazing how much more pregnant she looked in the space of a month!

I asked her if they'd changed the name they had picked out and she said no but now they have a second contender. I knew exactly what was going to come out of her mouth...'Charlotte'. That was the only name both Hubby and I had fallen in love with and had been talking about for over a year (but only between ourselves). I still have my fingers crossed they pick their first choice but oh well. We have another cute name up our sleeves, if in the distant future we even wind up having a girl.

And yes I do have jealously issues (major ones) I wish there was a cure for that! Suggestions are more than welcome!
